Global Works Council

Aker has a global cooperation council, the Global Works Council (GWC), derivated from EWC (European Works Council, based on European legislation / link). Since Aker is a global company, this has been taken one step further,  to include businesses and employees outside Europe as well.

In the prescent GWC, companies and employee representatives troughout Aker`s industrial portfolio, of a certain size and with a certain level of ownership, are represented. Aker’s CEO and the operative companies’ top management actively participate in the GWC dialogue and the annual meetings. Two GWC conferences are normally held each year, focusing mainly on operational status, strategy, and the introduction of the new Aker Sustainability Policy.

The GWC, over the years, have included liaison bodies’ representatives from Norway, England, Germany, Angola, India, Malaysia, Scotland, Ireland and the U.S.
This is subjected to changes, for instance in 2024 when the Aker Solutions ownership in Subsea was reduced to 20%. While in 2025, we notice that our activity in Canada is increasing.

Respecting people, human and labor rights are considered as key factors in Aker`s success. Collaboration with employee representatives has been part of  “The Aker Model” for decades. This builds organizations with a strong workforce, taking ownership of the process which they are a part of, and excercising responsability and sustainability when their duties sometimes gets heavier than average. In GWC, we, the representatives of the employees, tries to mirror this partnership and “psycological contract”, by playing an active part in the collaboration.

International Framework Agreement

Through the Global Framework Agreement, Aker and its industrial companies have committed to the respect and support of fundamental human rights and trade union rights in the countries in which the portfolio companies operate.
